Accessibility statement
Last updated 10 October 2026.
We want everyone to be able to use WrittenCheck, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, zoom or other assistive technology. This page says what we've done, what we know still needs work and how to reach us.
Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We check the site ourselves as we build it. It hasn't had a formal audit by an outside expert yet, so we don't claim full conformance.
What works today
- Keyboard use. You can reach the text box, the buttons, the language menu and the results with the keyboard. A "Skip to content" link appears as the first item when you press Tab, and focused items get a clear outline.
- Screen readers. Pages use proper headings, labels and landmarks. Status messages, such as a file finishing loading or a check being ready, are announced as they change.
- Text and zoom. The site uses real text, not images of text, and works when you zoom in to 200% or more. The layout adapts to phones, tablets and desktops.
- Light and dark mode. The site follows your device setting, and you can switch it with the button in the header.
- Less motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, we turn off animations.
- Languages. The detector page is available in 17 languages. Each page declares its language so screen readers use the right voice, and Arabic and Urdu pages read right to left.
- Images. Images in our articles have text alternatives, and charts in articles come with a written explanation in the text.
- No time limits. Nothing on the site times out while you're reading or typing.
Known limits
- The sentence chart. The chart under a result is visual. The same information is in the highlighted text and the written summary, but the chart itself is harder to use with a screen reader.
- Colour in highlights. Sentence highlights use colour to show how AI-like each sentence reads. We also show this in words in the result, but people who can't tell the colours apart may find the highlights less useful.
- Scanned PDFs and images. The upload feature can only read text-based files. It can't read text inside images or scanned pages.
- Older pages and posts. We're still checking every blog post against our goal. Some may have issues we haven't found yet.
We're working on these. If one of them blocks you, tell us and we'll help another way.
Tell us about a barrier
If something on WrittenCheck is hard to use, please email writtenchecksupport@gmail.com with "Accessibility" in the subject line. Tell us the page, what you were trying to do and the device or assistive technology you use. We read every message and will try to fix the problem or give you the information another way.
