Detector results are estimates
The WrittenCheck detector estimates how much a text reads like AI writing. It does this by comparing patterns in the text with patterns it learned from human and AI writing. That means:
- It can be wrong. Human writing can get a high score, and AI writing can get a low one.
- A score isn't a percentage of AI text. A score of 70 doesn't mean 70% of the words came from AI.
- It can't prove authorship. No AI detector can show who wrote a text or how it was written.
- Results can change. We retrain the detector, so the same text may score differently later.
Some kinds of text are harder to judge. These include short texts, AI drafts that a person has edited, very formal or formulaic writing, and writing by people using a second language. Our how it works page explains these limits and shows our dated test results.
Don't use a score alone to judge a person
A WrittenCheck result should never be the only reason for a decision about a student, employee, applicant or writer. If a result worries you, look at other evidence, such as drafts, version history and earlier work, and talk to the person. Give them a fair chance to explain.
Our articles are general information
The guides on our blog are written to be accurate and are checked against their sources, as our editorial policy explains. They are still general information, not legal, academic or professional advice. Rules on AI use differ between schools, employers, publishers and countries, and they change. Always follow the rules that apply to you, and check official sources such as your school's policy or the official style guide.
Accuracy and timeliness
We try to keep everything on the site correct and up to date, but we can't promise that it's complete, current or free of errors. Each article shows its date. If you find a mistake, please tell us.
